Do you know in your heart that you need to change your life and start a home business or earn extra money from home? No matter the reason - whether it be to be your own boss, make a lifestyle change to meet the needs of your family, or simply because it’s time for a change - it can be a very difficult thing to do. Not because of any physical barriers, but because of the emotional barriers you create.
Taking the first step is the hardest and if you plan and execute it well, the things that are blocking you now will fall away. What seems now like a giant leap into the unknown can actually turn out to be a series of small but significant steps in the right direction.
Here are some tips to overcome your barriers and to give you a new perspective.
1. I can’t leave my job now. Starting a home based business does not mean you have to turn your back on your current job. You can start small, in your spare time and build it up.
2. I don’t have any spare time. If you truly intend to achieve your goal of working from home, you will find the time. Make a note of what you do each day and how long it takes you. Chances are you are filling your day being busy, not productive. Change your habits and make an appointment with yourself to work on your new home business.
3. What will people think? Who cares? This is your life, and your family’s. Sadly, we are conditioned from childhood to fear rejection and failure. We are constantly told, ‘be careful, you’ll fall’ and so we don’t rock the boat, we don’t walk along fences, we don’t do anything unexpected. The truth is that those who matter won’t reject you and will support you. In fact, they may even be a little envious and see you as brave.
4. I only have certain skills that won’t work in a home business. Not true! You have a lifetime of experience. Your career or work history has nothing to do with what you’re capable of. Apply every aspect of yourself and you will find a home business that you can be successful at. Where you don’t have the skills, you will learn from others who do.
The bottom line is……don’t be afraid. Research, plan, build a support network and follow your instincts. If you truly have the commitment to work from home, you will find a way and overcome the barriers you put in your way.
